Can you fall in love with words?

To the hoi polloi, words are just mere assortment of letters making sense syntactically and semantically (Unless it is a Chetan Bhagat novel, in which case words don’t make sense at all). But to us writers, (Yes, I am calling myself one because everyone with a camera calls themselves a photographer) words are a lot more.

For the average joe, the answer to the ‘titled’ question would be ‘Is he on dope?’ Still disagreeing? Read ahead. Falling for words isn’t a chimerical happening. It’s true that physical appearance matters while evaluating a person, but it is only after undressing the mind, that the intimacy amplifies.  When does one eventually start liking someone? When he/she has known the other person for quite some time and has conversed and talked about things. No prizes for guessing. How does this happen? WORDS!

Words convey. They emote. They express. They bring meaning to communication. Words give you an insight into someone’s mind which is otherwise impossible I guess. Words make you feel things. They give meaning to life. Words are scary, intimidating, sweet, calm, kind, offensive, nasty, beautiful, creepy, inspirational, musical and they have many many such shades. They are strong. They are weak. They are harsh. They make you feel loved. They arouse hatred. Words are so sorcerous at times, that they even have the ability to sexually elate you too. So many traits, yet inexplicable – this is the beauty of words. Magical isn’t it?

Like any other worldly entity, words have their share of cons. Words are difficult to erase. They stay. The scars are not visible but they remain, reminding you of your deeds. Words have the power to break relations in a jiffy. You know why it bothers you if he/she doesn’t reply you? You ache for their words. You don’t know if they are typing with a blushing face or have a face like Arjun Rampal. It doesn’t matter. When you are not face to face, expressions don’t help but words do. When ‘online’ changes to ‘typing’, isn’t that the best feeling ever? One word determines your mood for the next few minutes or maybe hours if it is the right person.

Words have the power to divert you away from reality. They have the power to transport you to a different universe. Words sung rhythmically have the ability to make you remember people. No wonder some playlists are not just songs, but memories. Words help you love. They supplement your feelings. Words hurt. Words heal. Words repair and words give you hope.

Do you say something funny just so that you can hear her laugh? Best feeling ever? Thank your words for that. Maybe I am not on dope after all eh? Or, it’s the dope speaking through me? See, even narcotics use the medium of words.

Anyway words also have this thing to bore people. So before I bug the crap out of you, I shall stop for good.

Till next time,
Cheers and keep talking 🙂
